MATHEMATICS

Length of course: 1, 2 , 3 or 5 days  depending on needs

All Boards

The GCSE mathematics syllabus and specification has four parts which are common to all the boards:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Shapes, Space & Measure
  • Data Handling

The revision course will cover all four areas with emphasis on the functional elements of mathematics. Students are grouped according to what examination tier they have registered for – either Foundation (Grades C – G) or Higher (A* – D).

Each session of revision lasts about 1.5 – 2 hours during which the tutor leads an interactive discussion of the key skills, knowledge and concepts of each topic and provides a summary. The students practice past examination questions on the topic. They are encouraged to highlight individual problem areas which are reviewed in an interactive fashion with guidance from the tutor. The last day is devoted to practice with past papers. Throughout the course, emphasis is given to advice and learning of exam and revision technique.

STEPS IN IDENTIFYING YOUR NEED

Structure:

  • The courses are both topic-specific in subjects where the core topics are common to the specifications of all the examination boards and board-specific where the focus is on a particular board specification.
  • Students should specify in their application forms which board examination they are registered for each subject they wish to revise.
  • Each subject is revised over 6 hours daily.
  • Students can choose to revise a subject over 1-3 days.
  • LEARNER-centred which allows individual problem areas to be addressed.
  • Intensive revision with classes, tutorials and examinations.
  • Extensive practice with past examination papers. Students will practice with papers from their own exam board.
  • Practice of examination technique.
  • Advice on revision and study skills.
